PODCAST: A Bit of Greece in Bohemia

Tom and Gabriella Matheos, owners of the very popular restaurant Go Greek in Garden City have taken their authentic Greek cuisine to a second location in Bohemia, just a few steps from the Meat Farms off of Sunrise Highway, Locust Avenue exit.

In addition to serving up a "real" gyro (he explains that in my podcast), the menu includes traditional Greek sides like roasted lemon potatoes and gigantes beans. Starters include spanakopita (spinach pie), hallumi and saganaki.

Hot entrees are also available for eat-in or take out, including pastitsio, grilled lamb chops and roasted chicken. The salads are served with warm pita wedges and a homemade lemon vinaigrette. My favorite is what the Greeks call "horiatiki" which on the menus is called "Villager." This is a traditional authentic Greek salad with just tomatoes, cukes, onions, bell pepper, olives and feta. No lettuce. Ever.

Tom was born and reared here but grew up within the bustle and fragrance of a diner his parents owned and ran in Deer Park, the Olympic Diner. Hey, what else are you going to call it?

I sat down with Tom to discuss his menu and life as a successful restaurateur. Listen to my Podcast here.
